Yongzhou Mount Jiuyishan Scenic Area

In the southern part of NingYuan County, Yongzhou City, Mount Jiuyi is a national AAAA scenic area. Occupying 200 square kilometers, the scenic area is a habitat of many rare plants and wild animals including the unique Jiuyi spot bamboo. The mountain is called Jiuyi because there are nine (Jiu in Chinese) peaks. On the mountain is the Mausoleum of Emperor Shun, a key cultural relic under state-level protection and one of the ten most famous cultural heritage sites in Hunan Province. The mausoleum was originally built in Xia Dynasty (about four thousand years ago) and it is the earlist recorded tomb of the Chinese people's ancestors. Historically, the mausoleum was a place for emperors and kings from various periods in ancient China to pay their respects to the Emperor Shun, one of the five earliest emperors of China. Since 2,000, cultural tourist festivals and sacrificial ceremonies have been held every year and attract a great many tourists.

Other 37 scenic spots in the area include the Garden of Cuckoo, the Garden of Spot Bamboo, Yongfu Temple, Zixia Rock and Yuguan Rock, all of which are memorable sites and of great interest to visitors.
