Tea-light opera is a small scaled musical opera in Fenghuang, originating from folk minor, folk songs of labor, lantern dance and many traditional tunes.

Fenghuang Tea-light opera approximately appeared in 18th century. It focuses on laborers’ celebrating good harvest, praising life and eulogizing love, having great times style and distinct local national features. Tea light opera are usually comedies, with overstated, humorous and concise story lines.

Now, Fenghuang Tea-light opera mainly includes two sects: One kind is popular in eastern and northern parts of Fenghuang and is characterized by singing and acting. Another is generally popular in southern part of Fenghuang, having many scenes of acrobatic fighting.

As a small scaled musical drama, Tea-light opera shows the characteristic of small. The amount of performers is at most twelve, usually two or four. Though having small number of performers, they pay special attention to dressing. Gorgeous clothing, charming dancing, active performance, easily understood language, beautiful melody and national features make Tea-light opera be popular with viewers.
