Miao People Celebrate Girls’ Day

On the same day, the 2019 Miao Girls' Day opening ceremony was held in Huangsang Ecological Tourism Zone of Suining County, Shaoyang City. A series of activities were held to showcase Miao culture and tourist resources in Suining County, including the “Beautiful Girl” Tent and B&B Festival, the 3rd Southwestern Hunan Special Local Products Festival, and a cultural tourism creative products exhibition. The festival falls on the eighth day of the fourth month of the Chinese lunar calendar, in commemoration of Yang Li'niang, an ancient Miao heroine of the Song Dynasty (960-1279). The festival, which is specific to Miao women only, is celebrated in the Miao regions of Hunan Province, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and Guizhou Province that are near to Suining County. It was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2008.
